On the morning of October 17, 2023, Premier of the State Council Li Qiang met with Chilean President Gabriel Boric at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. President Boric was in China to attend the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation and to conduct a state visit.
Li Qiang noted that China and Chile have always adhered to mutual respect and win-win cooperation, with their bilateral relationship consistently leading Latin America and the Caribbean in relations with China. President Xi Jinping held fruitful talks with President Boric, jointly outlining a blueprint for the development of China-Chile relations in the new era. China is willing to work with Chile to implement the important consensus reached by the two leaders, carry forward the tradition of pioneering and progress, and further strengthen friendship and cooperation. This will advance the China-Chile comprehensive strategic partnership to new heights and deliver fresh results.
Li Qiang emphasized that China views Chile’s development as an opportunity and is committed to advancing high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative framework. He expressed China’s readiness to align development strategies with Chile, making full use of mechanisms like the China-Chile Joint Permanent Committee to prioritize and coordinate key areas of cooperation. Efforts will be made to expand and enhance traditional cooperation in agriculture, energy and mining, and infrastructure, while increasing trade volume and quality to ensure stable and smooth global industrial and supply chains. Financial cooperation, including in investment and financing, will be strengthened to support bilateral trade and investment.
Li also highlighted opportunities for exploring new fields such as clean energy, the digital economy, and technological innovation, aiming to create new growth poles in China-Chile cooperation and jointly improve development quality.
President Boric noted the long-standing friendship between Chile and China. He reaffirmed Chile’s adherence to the one-China principle and its support for the Belt and Road Initiative. Chile looks forward to exchanging governance experiences with China, consolidating traditional cooperation in agriculture and food, and expanding new areas of collaboration in technological innovation, Antarctica, and tourism. Enhanced cultural exchanges will deepen bilateral ties. Chile welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest and sees itself as a gateway for Chinese businesses entering Latin America, fostering mutual development.
